Procedure Text


·         Definition:
Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a sequence of actions or steps. It explains how people perform different processes in a sequence of steps.
This text uses simple present tense, often imperative second, then, next, finally, etc.


·         The Generic Structure:
-          Goal or title ( Aim ).
-          Materials ( Ingredients, Equipment ).
Ø  The things we need to achieve the goal.
Ø  Nor required for all procedural text.
-          Steps ( Method )
Ø  Oriented to achieving the goal.
Ø  The actions that must be taken.

·         Purpose:
It purpose is to describe how something is accomplished through a sequence of actions or steps.

·         Example Of Procedure Text:
“ How To Insert SIM Card “

v  You will need:
1.       Hand phone
2.       SIM Card

v  What to do:
-          First of all, switch off the phone.
-          Second, pull the battery lock on the back the phone, and hold
it in thus position.
-          Next, slide the cover, and lift the battery.
-          Then, insert the SIM Card into its slot. But, remember, do it
carefully. Um, one more thing, don’t forget to make sure the
golden connectors on the card face into the phone and ah,
the opposite end of the battery until it snaps into place.
-          Now, slide the cover back into the mobile phone.
-          Finally, switch on your phone and you’ll see the signal of
your SIM Card on the phone screen and do you know what
the means? Good! It means you can start using your phone.
